A Building Clearance Prune That Does Not Create Watersprouts

Clear the contact, do not hat-rack the oak

An East End roof or pool house needs space from the oak. Topping that limb to the house line sends a flush of watersprouts into the same shingles next year. We use reduction cuts back to a lateral that can take the growth. That is a slower looking cut and a longer lasting clearance. Formal hedges along the same wall still belong on hedge trimming, not on the oak ticket.

Repeat clearance can mean the tree is the wrong neighbor

If the same limbs return every season, or decay shows at old stubs, ask whether removal is the honest next step. A health look belongs on plant health care when the crown is thinning for reasons other than contact. We will not sell annual topping as a maintenance plan.

Access still matters. A lift needs a path that is not the septic or the pool deck. Party-weekend tents should not sit on the same roots we are trying to keep alive while we prune for the roof.
